World Heritage, famous hot springs, and scenic gorges. The essence of the land of Mt. Fuji condensed.
Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko
Japan's highest sacred mountain and Lake Kawaguchiko, which reflects the "Inverted Fuji" on its surface. You can enjoy seasonal scenery and a variety of activities.
Hottarakashi Onsen
An open-air bath overlooking the Kofu Basin. The overwhelming sense of openness, where the sunrise, sea of clouds, and night view become one, is its charm. It is one of the most popular spots in the country for "worshipping the sunrise in a bath."
Mitake Shosenkyo
One of Japan's leading scenic spots woven by granite cliffs and clear streams. You can enjoy the colors of the four seasons from the promenade or ropeway.
Altitude 3,776m, Japan's highest peak. Changing expressions with the seasons, it has long been a source of faith and art.
World Cultural Heritage "Object of Faith and Source of Art"
Mt. Fuji was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2013, with 25 component assets. By visiting surrounding famous places like Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and Oshino Hakkai, you can experience the history of nature and prayer brought about by the volcano.
During the climbing season (July-September), four routes (Yoshida, Subashiri, Gotemba, Fujinomiya) are open. Watching the sunrise from a mountain hut is a classic experience. Miso soup drunk at the summit soaks into your body.
Climbing is prohibited in winter due to snow, but for "Inverted Fuji," Lake Kawaguchiko or Oshino are good spots, and for "Diamond Fuji," Lake Yamanakako and Lake Motosuko are recommended. The grace of the snow makeup is called the "origin of Japanese painting" and attracts many photographers.
At the foot of the mountain, there are the Fuji Visitor Center and the Mount Fuji Research Institute, where you can learn about the mechanism of the active volcano and disaster prevention efforts. Viewing Mt. Fuji from the three perspectives of faith, art, and science adds depth to the experience.
Tourism hub of the Fuji Five Lakes. Features Inverted Fuji, cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and winter fireworks.
"Double Fuji" created by the lake surface
On windless mornings, the lake surface becomes a mirror, revealing a vertically symmetrical Mt. Fuji. Oishi Park and the pier at Nagasaki Park are particularly popular photo spots.
The four seasons are distinct with spring cherry blossoms, summer lavender, autumn leaves, and winter fireworks, and there are many annual events. At the Kawaguchiko Herb Festival, the contrast between purple lavender fields and Mt. Fuji is reputed to look great in photos.
You can enjoy the view from both the sky and water via the pleasure boat "Ensoleillé" and the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway. There is a "Bell of Tenjo" at the top of the ropeway, and ringing it with Mt. Fuji in the background is said to bring luck in love.
Hot spring inns, museums, and cafes gather by the lake, and star gazing tours are held at night. With well-developed tour buses, it is a versatile resort you can enjoy all day without a car.
Largest surface area of the Fuji Five Lakes. A highland resort for swan boats and SUP, and a sacred place for Diamond Fuji.
Highland Sports & Swan Lake
Taking advantage of the refreshing climate at an altitude of about 980m, yachts, windsurfing, and SUP are very popular in summer. A cycling road is maintained along the lake, and a lap of 13km takes about 1.5 hours by rental bicycle.
In winter, smelt ice fishing and "Inverted Diamond Fuji" are the main attractions. For a period in February and October, during sunrise and sunset, the sun overlaps with the summit of Mt. Fuji, and a double diamond reflected on the lake surface can be seen.
At Hana no Miyako Park, you can capture seasonal flower fields and Mt. Fuji in one frame, and laser & fireworks shows are held on summer nights. Many facilities are pet-friendly, making it rapidly popular as a travel destination with dogs.
Lakeside gourmet features the pairing of the new specialty "Shirasu-don" (whitebait bowl) and Yamanashi wine. It is a standard course to wash away sweat at a nearby hot spring facility and end the day with a clear starry sky.
Eight clear ponds fed by Fuji's underground water. National Natural Monument known for transparency reflecting the bottom and thatched village scenery.
"Life of Fuji" dwelling in spring water
The water of Oshino Hakkai is snowmelt from Mt. Fuji that has been filtered through lava layers for about 20 years. In the clear cobalt blue spring ponds, you can clearly see bottom stones at a depth of 8m, and when you hold up a camera, the boundary between water and sky disappears.
Each pond has a name and legend, such as "Sokonashi-ike" (Bottomless Pond) and "Deguchi-ike" (Exit Pond), and visiting the eight ponds was considered to have the same benefit as climbing Mt. Fuji. At the Hakkai Museum, you can learn about Fuji-ko culture along with Edo period living tools.
On winter mornings, fog is generated due to the temperature difference with the water, creating a fantastic landscape of "Mist Village." There is also a drinking fountain, crowded with people taking home the soft-tasting famous water. Nearby spring water soba and salt-grilled Yamame trout are also pleasures of the trip.
Recently, kimono rentals and ninja costume experiences have appeared, and the number of foreign tourists taking time-slip photos with thatched houses and Mt. Fuji in the background is rapidly increasing.
Perfect beauty of Pagoda x Cherry Blossoms x Mt. Fuji. A breathtaking view awaits after climbing 398 stone steps.
The composition of "THE JAPAN" admired by the world
The single frame of the red Chureito Pagoda and Mt. Fuji that spread rapidly on social media is a regular on the top banners of overseas travel sites. During the cherry blossom season, it is so popular that Fujiyoshida City imposes pedestrian-only regulations.
The park was developed in 1963 to console the spirits of the war dead, and while the interior of the five-story pagoda is not open to the public, the exterior alone has sufficient presence. There are abundant seasonal events such as the autumn leaves festival and winter snow makeup with illumination.
Furthermore, when the early morning sea of clouds appears, the city turns into a white sea, creating a miraculous composition where the five-story pagoda and Mt. Fuji float. At the Fujimi Teahouse next to the observation deck, you can take a break with a "Chureito Latte" in hand.
The main hall of Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine enshrines a sacred tree to calm the eruption of Mt. Fuji, and it is said that the benefits of good luck and warding off evil are doubled if you climb after visiting.
Starting point of the Mt. Fuji Yoshida Trail. Famous for 1000-year-old cedar trees and the Fire Festival granting victory.
Entrance to Fuji Faith
A sacred area where ascetics have gathered for about 1000 years, and the main hall is an Important Cultural Property. The large torii gates on the left and right of the worship hall are 18m high, and passing through the cypress bark roofed divine gate tightens your heart with the cool air and scent of cedar.
At the "Yoshida Fire Festival" on August 26-27, torches over 3m high parade through the city, announcing the "closing of the mountain" for Mt. Fuji. The spectacle of flames and the roar of drums echoing in the night sky is a once-in-a-lifetime impact.
The Yoshida Trail starting from the back of the precincts is a path of faith where Fuji-ko pilgrims in white once formed lines. If you pass through the torii and climb, you can experience walking while cleansing your mind even today.
The shrine office offers "Mt. Fuji Summit Postcards" for prayer. It is a hot topic as a "letter delivered from the sky" if you bring it to the Okumiya at the summit and post it.
Gathering of Guinness-class scream machines. Thrill limits broken with "FUJIYAMA," "Do-Dodonpa," and "Takabisha."
Experience world-class screams at the foot of Mt. Fuji
FUJIYAMA has a total length of over 2km, offering a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and Lake Yamanakako from the top. Do-Dodonpa reaches 180km/h in 1.56 seconds, with G-force comparable to an F1 machine.
Content is substantial for the whole family, including "Thomas Land" for children and the anime "NARUTO x BORUTO Fuji Hidden Leaf Village."
In summer, mist is sprayed in the park, and in winter, a skating rink and illumination provide seasonal production. Since admission is free, a "casual Fuji-Q" just for using the scenic cafe is also OK.
The expert strategy is to heal scream fatigue at the adjacent hotel "Highland Resort" or "Fujiyama Onsen" and aim for the front row of the new coaster the next morning.
One of Japan's leading beautiful gorges woven by granite cliffs and Sengataki Falls. Seasonal dramas of autumn leaves, fresh green, and ice falls.
Walking through a gallery of strange rocks
Huge rocks with unique names such as Kakuenbo, Rakanji-iwa, and Tengu-iwa continue, and the 4km hike along the mountain stream is like a natural art museum. Near Sengataki Falls, the amount of negative ions is 30 times that of Tokyo!
From the panorama deck at the top of the ropeway, you can overlook Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, and Yatsugatake. It is certified as a Lover's Sanctuary, and the number of couples hanging heart-shaped padlocks is rapidly increasing.
Also famous as a production area for crystals, street stores offer services to polish natural stones on the spot. Star gazing tours are held at night, allowing you to enjoy the Milky Way and the illuminated gorge simultaneously.
Since famous stores for gorge gourmet such as Hoto noodles and deer cutlets are scattered around, a golden route of Hiking -> Gorge Cafe -> Crystal Shopping creates a fulfilling day.
A paradise of clear streams symbolized by the Nanatsugama-Godan-no-Taki Waterfalls. Reset your mind and body at a forest therapy base.
Competition of Emerald Basin and Shiranuno Falls
The Nanatsugama-Godan-no-Taki Waterfalls, where emerald green waterfall basins connect in steps, is a must-see. During the peak of autumn leaves in late October, hikers' cheers echo in the valley.
The loop trail is full of thrills with suspension bridges and wooden paths along the gorge. For beginners, the route going clockwise looking up at the waterfalls from below is recommended.
The beech forest of Okuchichibu has a high concentration of phytoncides, and the more you walk, the more your brain relaxes due to the forest bathing effect. After descending, enjoy the famous "Handmade Soba" and "Inobuta (Boar-Pig) Croquette" at Michi-no-Eki Mitomi.
In summer only, gorge shower climbing tours are also held, gaining popularity among active people who dive into waterfall basins.
Mt. Fuji, Kofu Basin, Starry Sky... all viewed from the bath. Open before dawn, favorite of "Sunrise Hunters."
Two great open-air baths: "Kocchi" and "Acchi"
"Kocchi-no-Yu" (This Bath) where the night view of Kofu Basin spreads out before your eyes, and "Acchi-no-Yu" (That Bath) where you bathe in the morning sun rising from Mt. Fuji. Even if you hop between both, it's a generous price of only an additional 200 yen.
The source is a simple alkaline spring with skin-beautifying effects. Even if the outside temperature before dawn is 5°C, it's heaven once you soak in the hot water. After the bath, stuffing your cheeks with "Fried Onsen Egg" and "Onsen Egg Soft Serve with Red Bean Paste" is a standard.
Facilities are minimal. No valuables box, rest area is only benches. But that is good. The cleanliness of being "left alone except for the bath" (the meaning of Hottarakashi) creates many repeaters.
Fruit parks and starry camping sites are adjacent on the same high ground, making a luxurious course of Onsen -> BBQ -> Astronomical Observation easily realizable.
The prefecture's largest hot spring town springing in a peach utopia. Wine baths, fireworks, and footbaths warm you all year round.
Hot water surrounded by local wine and peach blossom scent
The abundant hot water gushing 5,000L per minute from underground in the ryokan district is colorless and transparent, known as a beauty spring that makes skin smooth. Depending on the inn, you can enjoy a luxurious "Wine Bath" pouring Koshu wine into the tub.
Annual events are packed: vast pink peach fields in early April, Fuefuki River fireworks on summer nights, grape picking in autumn, and footbath illumination in winter. The station-front footbath is free 24 hours a day and is a resting place for travelers.
Sake breweries and wineries are dotted within walking distance, realizing a "route where you don't get drunk walking" as you can return to the inn right after tasting. Local gourmet like Hoto and chicken giblet stew is also substantial, warming you up to your stomach.
About 90 minutes by express from Shinjuku. Please fully experience the sensation of soaking in groundwater equivalent to 5 Tokyo Domes.
Guinness certified oldest hotel in the world (Founded 705). Source spring flowing freely at the foot of the Southern Alps.
Famous hot water flowing for 1300 years and anecdote of Takeda Shingen
Four private sources gush over 2,000L per minute. Soaking in the tub with "no water added, no heating, no circulation" lets you monopolize the blessings of hot water continuing since the Nara period.
Historical romance remains with records that Takeda Shingen treated wounded soldiers from the Battle of Kawanakajima, and Tokugawa Ieyasu also visited.
All guest rooms have a mountain stream view. Dinner features char and game meat grilled at the hearth, and the scent of firewood and the murmur of the valley fill your five senses.
The road to the inn is a winding road through the gorge, but it is safe if you use the shuttle bus. Please enjoy a "digital detox" in the silence out of mobile range.
Enshrined at the site of Tsutsujigasaki Mansion. A power spot for victory dedicated to Lord Takeda Shingen, also popular for cherry blossoms.
The flag of Furinkazan still waves
Founded in 1919. The approach lanterns lined with the family crests of the Takeda 24 Generals capture the hearts of history buffs. The Treasure Hall exhibits valuable armor such as the Kawanakajima Battle folding screen and gold leaf helmet.
In spring, about 2,000 Yoshino cherry trees bloom, and the night cherry blossom illumination imitating the red armor of the Takeda clan is solemn. There are plenty of events like the Wind Chime Festival in summer and the Takeda Festival in autumn.
Goshuin (shrine stamps) with gold letters of "Victory Protection" are popular. At the cafe next to the shrine office, you can taste "Shingen Pudding" and Monaka shaped like the Takeda diamond crest, perfect for a break from historical walks.
Convenient access, 10 minutes by bus from JR Kofu Station. If you walk along the castle ruins stone walls and moats, you can feel the breath of the Tiger of Kai.
Stone wall castle 3 minutes walk from the station. Panoramic view of Kofu Basin and Mt. Fuji from the castle tower base, great for cherry blossoms and night views.
Stone walls tell the rise and fall of the castle town
Built by Toyotomi retainer Asano Nagamasa. It became a "castle with only a tower base" because the keep burned down after the Siege of Osaka, but its stone walls are a mix of field stone piling + cut stone piling, state-of-the-art at the time.
In spring, 500 cherry trees color the stone walls, and in autumn, a warrior procession parades at the Kofu Ebisuko Festival. At night, the "Sky Stone Wall" floating with illumination is photogenic.
The museum in the park exhibits castle models and excavated artifacts. There is also a stamp rally and armor fitting experience, so it can be enjoyed with children.
It is adjacent to the "Orion Square" drinking district in front of Kofu Station, so a golden course of Historical Walk -> Toast with Koshu Chicken Skewers is recommended.
One of Japan's three odd bridges spanning the Katsura River. The arch created by the cantilever structure and the view of autumn leaves and wisteria are a scenic spot since Edo.
Aerial wooden bridge with zero pillars
The structure where four layers of cantilever beams jut out is rare globally. Straddling a granite gorge, 31m to the valley floor—it requires no bridge piers and is not washed away by floods, boasting the essence of Edo civil engineering technology.
Wisteria in April and autumn leaves in November color the bridge and gorge photogenically. Night illumination is also carried out, and when river mist drifts, it becomes a mysterious beauty like an Ukiyo-e print.
At the Saruhashi Museum near the bridge, models and Ukiyo-e explain the history of the three odd bridges. Combining it with a walk through the post town of Koshu Kaido gives you the feeling of an Edo traveler.
It is a 15-minute walk from JR Saruhashi Station, and a mini trip of Katsura River cycling + Saruhashi tour with a station rental cycle is also recommended.
Family temple of Lord Takeda Shingen. The National Place of Scenic Beauty garden and the death poem on the Sanmon gate attract Sengoku fans.
"If you extinguish your mind, even fire is cool"
The plaque displayed on the upper story of the Sanmon gate is the death poem chanted by head priest Kaisen Joki when the temple was burned down by Oda's army. The spirit of the monk who continued to recite sutras while being engulfed in flames is still handed down today.
The garden created by Muso Soseki behind the main hall is a hybrid of dry landscape and pond spring. The shadows of carp released on the water surface reflecting autumn leaves project the impermanence of Zen.
After putting your hands together at Shingen's grave, taste the "Miso Dumpling said to be loved by Shingen" at the temple tea house. There are many Katsunuma wineries nearby, making it a good location for temple tours & wine tourism.
On April 12th, the Shingen-ko memorial service features drums and sutra chanting echoing in the precincts, and a Sengoku warrior procession is also held, a must-see for history event lovers.
Head temple of Nichiren Shu. The 287 steps of the "Bodaitei" and the 400-year-old weeping cherry tree are overwhelming. Summit view via ropeway is also available.

It takes 7 minutes by ropeway to the Okunoin at the summit. The observation deck overlooking the Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji is a "100 Famous Mountains Panorama." A sea of clouds can also be seen seasonally.
In the temple town, Buddhist vegetarian "Yuba-don" and the famous confection "Minobu Manju" are specialties. Many pilgrims extend their legs to the hot spring "Shimobe Onsen" after visiting.

During the Gokaicho (unveiling) every six years, the substitute main image is open to the public, and the precincts are enveloped in enthusiasm with the Million Times Large Rosary Turning service.

The main building is a fusion of Art Deco x Japanese architecture. Using materials from around the world such as lapis lazuli pillars and Himalayan cedar beams, the building itself is a work of art.
The sound of Ryumon Falls and Suikinkutsu in the garden stimulates the five senses. If you have matcha and Japanese sweets at the cafe "Ichichiku-an," a lingering tone as if your heart has been dyed will remain.
